Students of PYP3 – MYP 5 streamed onto the field in the spirit of camaraderie and collective hunger for adventure. A day filled with peals of laughter and cheering for one another and of course the age-old cliché reminder that winning doesn’t really matter as long as you’re creating memories. Their teamwork was a tapestry woven with threads of support and trust which led to sweet victories.
The true spirit of adventure camp was not in the accolades but in the symphony of joy that came from pushing boundaries.
The hike was 10 km long and took only 45 minutes to reach the stunning view, which felt almost unearned. The Ayyapan Mountain towers over the land, making it hard to not get jaded by nature’s bounties. Students carved their names along the trail and placed stones on top of each other (for each subject apparently). The trekking taught us that we don’t need to take a journey to the centre of the earth and find untouched wilderness to fall in love with the world. A moment of serendipity can happen in your backyard as well!
Students cozily sprawled on their mattresses, tumbling and giggling. The students weaved a core memory at night camp, from pillow fights to stashing uno cards under their sheets.
But then there comes this idea from a student, from skies above, a lightning bolt nosediving towards us – “Shall we share horror stories”.
The ambience changed, the restless wind seemed to carry whispers of the past. The flickering lights cast shadows on their faces. Everybody pulled their legs inside their blankets and huddled close together. With bated breath, they listened as the stories unfolded but each story was punctuated with a joke, we are sure that even if a ghost had shown up it would’ve left feeling completely insecure and embarrassed!
